Capacity and events
The stadium originally had a capacity of 31,600 spectators during the 1928 Games. In 1937, the stadium was expanded to over 64,000 seats with the addition of a second tier of stands. A thorough renovation took place between 1996 and 2000, during which the second tier and velodrome were removed, and the capacity was reduced to 22,288 seats.
Nowadays it functions mainly as an athletics stadium, but also as an event location for events such as De Amsterdamse Zomer, Phanos athletics evenings and music festivals.
